Neos Marmaras (New Marmaras) is one of, without false humbleness, most popular tourist destinations in northern Greece. You can witness it yourself if you visit Neos Marmaras at beginning of September. At that time of year it is swarming with Greek tourists spending their vacation there.
The town itself is located on “middle finger” of Chalkidiki -Sithonia. It is the biggest settlement on the whole penisula. It is located some 110 kilometers away from Thessaloniki and it has some 2500-3000 permanent residents, and in height of tourist season you can find up to 30000 tourists settled in Neos Marmaras.


The town was settled in period 1922-1924 godine, next to seashore, just under ancient fishing village in heights above. There were mass migration of christian population from Turkey. The land itself was property of monasteries of mount Athos, and monks gave it to settlers. Trademark and one of symbols of Neos Marmaras is small wooden boat which was used to transport church internal portal from Marmaris in Turkey which is still inside the town church.



In Neos Marmaras, every thursday morning till noon there is a big open market, where you can buy fresh vegetables, fruit, cheese, honey, olive oil, wine etc.
Special treat is offer of fresh fish and sea food for most affordable prices. All fish you buy, kind salesman will cut open and clean from intestinals etc for free. All that needs to be done is to salt and spice it as you like, place it on hot barbecue and enjoy.
